The OCP Engineering Workshops are working sessions that are meant to be technical in nature and are designed to allow the OCP Project Communities to come together to work on the goals and set the direction of each project as it supports the mission and vision of the OCP Foundation.  These Engineering Workshops are designed to encourage, empower and inspire the OCP community to communicate, collaborate and contribute! These events are free to the public, but do require registration.

World’s largest online and mobile commerce company supports open standards being adopted throughout the world

The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) announced today that Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA), the world’s largest online and mobile commerce company, has joined as a Platinum member. OCP was initiated by Facebook in 2011 with a mission to apply the benefits of open source to hardware and rapidly increase the pace of innovation in, near and around the data center and beyond. Since then, OCP has been consistently innovating around open source contributions for networking, servers, storage and Open Rack.

Offering Choices to Address Growing Data Center Needs

Earlier this week we held our leadership sprint with the community’s project leaders and technical committee (IC). I presented on the value and benefits of the Carrier Grade OpenRack-19 architecture and the community was quick to point out that the architecture is also an ideal fit for cloud data centers where compatibility with 19” EIA-310 is desirable.  They asked that I share my thoughts on this architecture, so here we go!
