OCP 2018 U.S. Summit – Call for Participation

Thursday, November 02, 2017 · Posted by at 17:28 PM

The OCP 2018 U.S. Summit will be held on March 20 & 21 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. Registration will open on Monday, November 6. OCP Summit attendees, including engineers to C-level executives, come from around the globe and represent the technology, telecom, enterprise, finance, government, and consulting sectors.

Do you want to help shape the future of OCP and influence the next generation datacenter? If so, we have the following speaking opportunities available:

Keynote Sessions

The foundation will choose three keynote sessions from the submissions.  These timeslots are ideal opportunities to announce your company’s open source contributions in cloud computing technologies and contributions to the open source community. Please be advised that OCP encourages these sessions to be informational, educational, and/or collaborative in nature; should benefit the community; and are based on OCP tenets. The selection committee will prioritize these types of sessions over ones that take a more commercial or advertising approach.

Engineering Workshop Sessions

Each of the nine OCP chartered projects will hold a workshop where new technologies are shared and community driven specifications are discussed.   Organizations wishing to contribute a product or specification can use these sessions to socialize their ideas and seek collaboration partners.  Some of the workshop topics will be a continuation of topics being covered in the projects’ monthly calls, and new topics and product concepts will be introduced.    All submissions for one of the engineering workshops will be reviewed and prioritized by the OCP Project leads and IC committee.

OCP Project Example Content
Certification & Interoperability Building a knowledge base for tested hardware and software, expanding the OCP marketplace to share knowledge.
Datacenter Best practices for efficient design and operations.
Hardware Management Adoption of management standards (e.g. Redfish), establishing OCP profiles for hardware, community collaboration on OpenBMC.
High Performance Computing A new community to enable adoption of OCP technologies and products by the HPC segment and low latency computing.
Networking Open sourced leaf and spine switchgear, disaggregation of the hardware and innovation with network processing.   Includes open sourced software for switchgear (e.g. ONIE, SONiC, ONL) and collaboration opportunities with other network focused software projects (e.g. Linux Foundation sub-projects).
Rack & Power All mechanical and power related topics and standards that effect OpenRack, CG-OpenRack-19, 12VDC & 48VDC, and BBU features.
Server All server and compute node hardware for OpenRack, CG-OpenRack-19, Olympus, and mezzanine cards.   This project also covers GPU and FPGA accelerator products & common interfaces.
Storage Storage appliances, includes new API’s for efficient cloud storage.
Telcos Open sourced carrier and cable provider products (e.g. disaggregated access, CPE, passive optical networking). Also covers collaboration work and opportunities with other organizations such as TIP, CORD, & ONL.

One year ago, Microsoft announced Project Olympus, Microsoft’s next generation cloud hardware design which will power the Azure hyper-scale cloud, one of the world’s largest cloud infrastructure running in over 100 datacenters worldwide. Since joining OCP in 2014, Microsoft has shared the same server and datacenter designs that they deploy around the world and the OCP community has been able to take advantage of Microsoft’s innovations to improve performance, efficiency, power consumption and cost. Today, the first wave of Project Olympus specifications and design details are now available on the OCP Marketplace. Project Olympus products will soon be available and listed on the marketplace.

The Open Compute Project marketplace is a one-stop Marketplace to open sourced specifications, designs, and products. Products that carry the OCP Accepted™ recognition comply 100% with an OCP-accepted specifications and design files are open sourced and available. Products that carry the OCP Inspired™ recognition comply 100% with an OCP-accepted specification and are available from a Gold, Silver or Platinum member of OCP. All OCP products on the marketplace meet three or more of the OCP tenets of efficiency, openness, impact & scale.
