For example there is a project called SNAP: https://github.com/intelsdi-x/snap that already has many plug-ins both for collecting and publishing telemetry. One plug-in collector gathers SMART data from Intel SSDs: https://github.com/intelsdi-x/snap-plugin-collector-smart
